UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Mid to late 5th century. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.34 g, 7 h), imitating Leo I, 457-474. D N LEO PE-RPET AV Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Leo I facing slightly to right, holding spear in his right hand and with a shield decorated with horseman attacking a fallen foe over his left shoulder. Rev. VICTORI-A AVGGG Γ / CONOB Victory standing left, holding long jeweled cross; in field to right, star. Cf. Depeyrot 93/1 and RIC 605 (for prototype). Well struck on a broad flan, but with curiously flat edges. Good very fine.
